Networks Financial Institute Hosts 2nd Annual Regulatory Reform Summit
Lou Dobbs, Rep. Richard H. Baker among those to weigh in on legislative reform

(February 10, 2005, Indianapolis, IN)  — Social security reform and the latest developments affecting insurance regulatory policy will take center stage at the second annual Regulatory Reform Summit, March 3, in Washington D.C.  Hosted by Networks Financial Institute, an initiative of Indiana State University, the Summit will bring together policymakers, legislators and leaders within the financial services industry.  The agenda will focus on the legislative and regulatory issues that are driving sweeping change, particularly in the insurance industry.

Keynote speakers for the event include U.S. Representative Richard H. Baker, R-LA, Lou Dobbs, Anchor of CNN’s Lou Dobb’s Tonight; U.S. Rep. Barney Frank D-MA and Greg Zerzan, U.S. Department of Treasury.

As Chair of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, Representative Baker has been at the heart of the State Modernization and Regulatory Transparency (SMART) bill.  The concepts of the bill were previewed at the inaugural Summit held in March 2004.

“As Congress and the Bush Administration outline their agendas for the next four years, this forum provides a venue for critical, long-term financial policy issues to be examined and discussed by key policy makers and stakeholders,” said Liz Georgakopoulos, Executive Director of Networks Financial Institute.  More information about the Summit is available online at www.isunetworks.org.

Networks Financial Institute was founded in 2003 with a grant from the Lilly Endowment.  The non-profit organization serves as an outreach initiative of Indiana State University and focuses efforts on advancing important issues facing the financial services industry through research, education and outreach including a strong focus on improving financial literacy of all Americans.  Networks Financial Institute is headquartered in Indianapolis with offices on the campus of Indiana State University and outreach in Washington, D.C., and internationally.  For more information about Networks Financial Institute, visit www.networksfinancialinstitute.org.
