Visiting Scholars

Professor Sandeep Gopalan has joined the Scott College of Business at Indiana State University for the academic year 2010-2011 as a visiting scholar for Networks Financial Institute. Professor Gopalan will be on campus starting in mid-July and will conduct research on financial services law, regulation and policy, as well as on the convergence of financial regulatory systems in the United States and Europe.  He will also collaborate on research with members of the Scott College of Business faculty and advise the Dean of the College on curriculum development in the area of law and financial policy.   

 

Prof. Gopalan taught law for several years in the United States and in the United Kingdom before taking up his current post as head of the Department of Law at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an investment banker on Wall Street and as a lawyer in California. He graduated with a Gold Medal from the National Law School of India, and went up to Oxford (where he was a Rhodes Scholar) for his B.C.L., and D. Phil. degrees. Prof. Gopalan was appointed to the Arizona Aerospace and Defense Commission by the Governor of Arizona, and he served as chairman during 2006-07. He has served as co-chairman of the American Bar Association (ABA) Aerospace and Defense Industries committee, as vice-chairman of the ABA International Secured Transactions and Insolvency law committee, and as a member of the ABA Commission on Immigration. Prof. Gopalan's research has been published by leading law journals in the United States. He specializes in corporate governance, transnational commercial law and international law.
